User environment

All systems are Caléndula (MPI Cluster, Shared Memory Cluster and GPU´s Cluster) are in an environment similar software for ease of use. The operating system on all devices is Red Hat Enterprise Linux HPC, and all have the same configuration, as the operating system as libraries or utilities.

The queue manager is SGE, and all jobs must be sent to a queue for execution. When a user is discharged in Caléndula, it indicates which queues is authorized to submit jobs. The user must keep in mind:

  • There are queues for different needs.
  • Do not run interactive jobs. For this, there are “interactive queues” for working in the same way but without overloading the user frontends.
  • The authentication scheme is LDAP, and is common to the different clusters that contains Caléndula, so only is needed an account for the use of all subsystems.
  • The compute nodes of calculation do not allow interactive access to users.
  • The user storage spaces are set up on all nodes in the same place.

Users work in the frontends, which can access via ssh. The frontend is a high availability cluster of two HP Proliant DL380, and its direction is calendula.fcsc.es. Using a round-robin algorithm is accessed sequentially to each node.

The user's home directory is placed on the frontends (in /home /group /user) and all nodes in all clusters.

The system has many application programs in different fields of science installed that can be used by any user. It is recommended to consult the manual list and the handbook of use.

For users who need to compile your own applications, you can do with standard Linux compilers (gcc/g77) and the Intel Fortran and Intel C/C++. Moreover, several utilities are installed to code optimization for these, and also MKL libraries.
