The Data Processing Center (DPC) of the FCSCL, placed in the area provided for that purpose by the University of León in the CRAI-TIC building, is an example of the vision of FCSCL:
“Leading the management and the use of HPC Information Technology and advanced communications networks in Castile and León to support and improve the quality and efficiency of public research systems and the productivity and competitiveness of business”.
The FCSCL designed and implemented a highly innovative start a CPD that has considered a tendence: energy efficiency target, there has been a minimalist design adapting the limited space (90 m2) to the computing needs of the FCSCL.
The needs of the clients and collaborators of the FCSCL force to design the real 24*7*365 infraestructure, so it was imperative that they are appropriate, as a minimun, the Tier-III level of the normative TIA-942. That is, all elements are redundant and hot-enable their maintenance.
The DPC is divided in two rooms: the server room and the technical room. The first (60 m2) hosts the computational system, while the second contains the auxiliary systems: electrical devices, systems of fire extinction, systems of interrupted flow, control and distribution of refrigeration systems, etc.
